La Grange ISD's bad weather procedures are developed to proactively protect our students and staff members. During an inclement weather event, we work closely with local and state agencies—as well as monitor weather alerts and broadcasts—to make the best decision for our students and staff members. La Grange ISD also monitors an on-site weather system for lightening and storm predications.
Announcements to changes in school procedures will be made in the following methods:
Home page at the districts website: www.lgisd.net
La Grange ISD's Facebook page
Parents and staff will receive a district wide email and/or text
Local radio stations: FM 104.9 KVLG and FM 89.1 KTIM
Emergency School Closing
In the event school will be closed, the decision will be made as soon as reasonably possible to give parents ample time to make arrangements.
Late School Start
Considerations for late school starts include the safety of student/staff transportation to school. Buses leave on routes before 6:00 AM and a decision will be made before the first bus is scheduled to leave.
In the event of ice, flooding, or any other unavoidable cause, late school start may be 1 or 2 hours later than normal.
All bus routes will be ran exactly 1 or 2 hours later than normal. (For example: If a student is picked up at 7:15am, the 2 hour delay will result in a 9:15am bus pickup)
Blinn College dual credit program hosted at the Norma Webb Center will follow LGISD's procedure.
Breakfast will be served is school is delayed by 1 hour but it will NOT be served if school is delayed 2 hours.
Delayed Dismissal
In the event of severe weather at the time of school dismissal, precautions may be taken to reduce the risk of injury to students and staff. Threatening weather that approaches at the end of the school day can present additional challenges.
If a tornado warning is in place or severe weather is eminent at dismissal time, students will not be released until the all-clear is given.
If a tornado watch is in place at dismissal time, students will be released and sent home.
Buses will be held and not be in transit when there is immediate pending severe weather. If a bus is enroute and the weather dictates immediate action, the bus will seek shelter at the nearest safest location. If flooding has occurred and buses are unable to safely deliver students to their assigned bus stops, students will be returned to their campuses.
Bus loading will occur only under the awning. This procedure will delay normal bus operations by 10-20 minutes due to limited loading capacity at the campuses.
High School student drivers might be delayed in dismissal if lightening is in the area and it is unsafe to walk in the parking lot.
Students who walk home will follow campus procedures and their parent's pre-authorized option.
Also note that the district will NOT dismiss schools early due to the number of working parents and the likelihood of students being left home unattended.
